Robert Bowden, a Director of PhysioXtra, Xtra HomeCare & Xtra AgedCare is a Physiotherapist who completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia.
Robert initially obtained a large proportion of his health and wellness experience in the elite sporting field. He has extensive experience with health testing, exercise prescription, injury management, and return to sport programs working for the South Australian Cricket Association – Redbacks and SA second X11. Robert has also used these skills for Cricket Australia throughout an international cricket game working with the Prime Minister’s X11 when they played Sri Lanka.
Working with Kevin Whitford and Kath Chigwidden, Robert developed a Wellness at Work program based on the elite sporting principals, which targets the prevention and/or management of injuries in an expeditious and effective manner to prevent (or minimise) the costs of WorkCover claims.
Robert is currently running this program in full across the high risk Aged Care industry to 350 employees and has successfully lowered WorkCover claims at these workplaces.
Robert was the Project Manager for a research project titled ‘A multidisciplinary approach to injury minimisation in the Aged Care sector’ which was funded by EML. This research used Physiotherapy and Psychological interventions to impact on organisations culture to ultimately reduce injuries, sick leave, staff turnover and ultimately save organisations money. Robert presented this project at the Aged Care National Congress.
Robert is regularly invited by the Aged Care Association to conduct education sessions on Wellness in the Workplace and ACFI. Robert currently completes Manual Handling Training for United Group Services, Santos, Health and Management Nursing Services, Booze Brothers, Hospitality Industry and Training and Oaklands, Mitcham, Walkley and Bethsalem Residential Care.
Robert has also run a Risk Management program completing risk assessments and providing training to promote staff participation in hazard identification and control for Santos Offices at Flinders Street Adelaide and previously completed a full Risk Assessment of a the newly built Hirotec Australia factory which presented the safety challenges of machine paced repetitive lifting and human interaction with robotic equipment. Robert also completes regular services for WorkCover such as Job Analysis, Graduated Return to Work Plans, Case Conferences and Physiotherapy Treatments.
